Objectives: To determine clinical manifestations of non-specific laryngeal granuloma (NSLG), to assess results of the radio-wave disintegrator in endolaryngeal approach of granuloma surgery and to evaluate medical and surgical treatment combinations of NSLG.

Materials and methods: Medical records of 47 patients with NSLG in 4th and 67th Clinical hospitals of Moscow, Russia and 1st Clinical Hospital of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia were retrospectively reviewed. We could contact and re-examine the 21 cases. Moreover, prospective data was collected from 30 NSLG patients.

Results: The majority cases were (66.2%) diagnosed with contact granuloma and males (53.2%). The prevalent manifestations of contact granuloma were observed as a dysphagia (41%) and dysphonia (11.7%). The most patients with contact granuloma reported that their pain is dull. The percentage of intubation granuloma was 33.8. Majority of the cases had neck pain (42.3%), pain during swallowing (34.6%) and cough (30.8%). The radio-wave dezintegrator was performed in 19 patients and a plastic method (epithelium cover of wounds) was used in 14 patients. At 18 months follow-up visits NSLG recurrences were not observed.

Conclusions:

  1. Contact granuloma was more common among male patients. Due to the specific characters of laryngeal epithelium, women had more commonly intubation granuloma.
  2. The treatment of NSLG depends on types and severity of laryngeal granuloma.
  3. The plastic method was effective for NSLG treatment. Use of radio-wave dezintegrator could improve NSLG treatment.
