Objective. To examine the clinically sign retinoblastoma in stucture disease in Department of Pediatric Ophthalmology, MCHRC
Materials and methodology. We conducted retrospective study in 40 children with retinoblastoma who were diagnosed from 1987 to February 2009 in the Pediatric Ophthalmology department.
Results. During the study 44 eyes of 40 chidren were determined retinoblastoma which is 0.26%. In other hands, that case is appeared once in 32,000-33.000 in live births.
In addition, the 33 (82.5%) of total 40 children were investigated and their age were up to 3 years. Hence, median age of diagnosis was 30.03±18.9 months. Accordinvg to the our survey, retinoblastoma exists in right eye in 42, 5% (17 patients), left eye in 47, 5% (19 patients), and both eyes in 10 % (4 patients). Treatment results in the survey which was occured in children, the 33 (82.5%) was taken one, 2 (5%) were taken by both and 3 (7.5%) during the surgical operation. The most prevalent conditions were leucokoria (95%), unilateral mydriasis (75%), glaucoma (40%) and strabismus (42, 5%). 33 patients received enucleation (including 2 patients had bilateral enucleation). and 3 patients received exenteration. 22 patients received chemotherapy and 31 patients underwent external beam radiation. At the time of last follow-up, 30 patients were alive, 3 patients were dead and 7 patients had unknown vital status. Median survival time was 48.9 months.
Conclusion. Most of cases of retinoblastoma were unilateral. Most patients were diagnosed at relatively delayed stage with significant clinical signs. In Mongolian case, we have determiend this type of disease in belated period /30.3 / . Therefore, it has followed high risk in children vision life consequently they may become disability person as blind in their whole life.
