Абстракт
Backround: Smithsonite is one of many mineral resources used in traditional Mongolian
medicine. According to the principles of traditional medicine, this mineral ore has sweet and
neutral properties, and is associated with the Liver and Stomach meridians. Its main active
ingredients are zinc carbonate and various oxides, including magnesium oxide, manganese
oxide, zinc oxide and calcium oxide. The burned smithsonites have been used for improve
the eyesight, dry the serum and heal the wound.
The aim of this study was burn zinc contained raw materials which are used popular in
traditional medicine and analyze their element and mineral contents.
Methods: We optimized burning condition and analyzed burned and unburned materials
by X-ray methods. Mineral ore sample collected from Khuvsgul, Mongolia and commercially
available specimen imported from Inner Mongolia, PRC were analyzed with X-ray fluorescence
(HORIBA) and X-ray diffraction (Shimadzu MAXIM_X XRD-7000) methods for its mineral
constituents and elemental composition. Samples were prepared according to traditional
methods available. This include thermal processing in furnace, heat drying and ground
milling and further collection of floating layer in water.
Results: The samples which are collected from Khuvsgul aimag were contained
42,357/59,266% and 53,380/74,689% of Ca/CaO before and after burning, respectively.
That means it has less percentage of zinc. In case of samples which are imported from
Inner Mongolia were contained 54,214/67,487% and 56,623/70,482% of Zn/ZnO before
and after burning, respectively. We have focused on to study materials which are contained
zinc, so continued study mineral contents in Inner Mongolian samples. That was contained
Zn5(CO3)2(OH)6 hydrozincite, Zn4Si2O7(OH)2(H2O) hemimorphite, Al2Mg4(OH)12(CO3)(H2O)
unnamed mineral before burning and those have changed into ZnO, CaCO3 during the
burning processes. Results about formation of Zn oxides after processing which appear to
be the active principle is discussed.
Conclusion: Based on the results of X-ray studies we have concluded that the smithsonites
which are imported from Inner Mongolia contained more percentage of zinc after burning
process and that are used for heal the wound, improve the eyesight, dry the serum and
anti-bacteria.
