Congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common group of congenital disorder with a reported prevalence that rates from six to thirteen per 1000 live births. Cyanotic cardiac lesions account for approximately 15 percent of all CHD cases and  one third of potentially fatal forms of CHD. The purpose of our study was to determine the incidence of CHD in neonates by echocardiographic screening. The study was done the period between September 1, 2012 to August 31, 2013 at National Center for Maternal and Child Health and included all neonates, who were born during one year at this center. Color, 2D Doppler echocardiography was performed by pediatric cardiologists. Echocardiographic screening for CHD was done in 10946 neonates and CHD diagnosed in 265(2.42%) neonates. The most common congenital heart lesion was ventricular septal and atrial septal defects. From diagnosed CHD about 10% was critical congenital heart disease, which required urgent surgical and catheterization treatment in neonate period.
