Purpose: To evaluate how much time is spent by a nurse to transport a patient influences in her overall performance at work
Design: Cross sectional
Methods: The study was conducted by developing a questionnaire regarding transporting patients to the operating room and for diagnostic examinations to other departments, how many patients they transport in a day, how much time is spent on one patient, what are the problems they face during transportation. Thorough analysis was made to evaluate the questionnaire.
Results: In most of the time more than 6 patients are transported in a day, often up to 40 minutes is spent to transport one patient. Main problems are: long waiting time for the elevator to come, busy schedule of specialists in other departments. It means that half of the day is spent by a nurse for transporting patients which very negatively influences in her overall job performance.
Conclusion:
- The only one elevator in our hospital always very busy so there is a long waiting time. We need another elevator to function.
- We need to have a specific person (or a nurse) to transport patients. She also can share other duties in the Department after she finishes with transportation.
