Purpose: To study the postoperative final visual acuity of retinal detachment patients.

Materials and methods: We retrospectively analyzed 408 eyes who was done vitreo-retinal surgery in Solongo hospital from June of 2008 to December of 2011. The surgery was vitroectomy surgery with silicon oil, sutureless 23G PPV with silicon oil, RD 3600 band with buckle.

Results: The mean age of impaired vision of RD patients was 42. The cause of RD was trauma - 60%, high myopia-26.31%, systemic disease – 13.68%. Visual acuity was less than 0.1 in 346 RD patients. Postoperative follow up was done in first week, in 1st month, in 3d month,in 6th month. The vision was improved since first month and significantly improved in 3 and 6 after oil removed. But there was 12 cases of redechment after silicon oil removed.

Conclusion: The incidence of blindness due to RD can be reduced by early referral to ophthalmologist for diagnose and surgical treatment.
