Objective: To determine the causes and some risk factors of pyelonephritis among Mongolian children.
Study desings: This is a case – control study.
Materials and methods: Study subjects were 119 children treated in kidney –endocrinology department and outpatient clinics of MCHRC.
Results: The results of bacteriological test had showed that detection of microorganisms as a cause of pyelonephritis was positive in 73 (61.34%) cases whereas in 46 (38.65%) it was netagive. The main causingm microorganisms of pyelonephritis are E. Coli (41.17%); Proteus (6.72%), Еnterobacter (8.40%) and Staphylococcus aureus (2.52%).
In view of age, the pyeolonephritis is more common among children aged 0-3 and also more common in girls (64%) then in boys (36%). The secondary pyelonephritis due to kidney abnormalities (62.5%), vesicoureteral reflux (7.5%) and kidney stone (5%) is common findings among children.
Conclusions:
- The most common type of microorganisms as a cause of pyelonephritis is E.Coli (41.17%0.
- High prevalence of this pathologic condition was observed in children age between 0-3 years, and most of them were girls (64%).
- There is high prevalence of secondary pyelonephriris among our children and it is caused by congenital defects (62.5%), vesicoureteral reflux (7.5%), and kidney stones (5%).
