Абстракт

Blood cell indices are known to vary according to age, sex, race and living area, In this study, the normal hematological indices in healthy adults living in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (1306 m), and the effects of moderate altitude on these hematological indices was investigated. The study was comprised of 316, adults (159 males and 157 females), aged 20-75. The mean age was 38.78 years. There were highly statistically significant differences for some hematological indices between males and females (p<0.001). The mean indices for RBC, hematocrit and hemoglobin level were higher in males, whereas the platelet count was higher in females. But, the MCV, MCHC, and MCH levels showed no difference between males and females. The results of hematocrit and red blood cell indices of adults of Ulaanbaatar compared with adults of Gobi-Altai (2180 m), which were studied previously, were shown to be statistically significantly lower. But, the mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) and the mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) levels of adults of Ulaanbaatar, were significantly higher than levels of adults of Gobi -Altai. In conclusion, hematological indices in this study were different than those reported in the previous studies carried out on those living in the high altitude of Mongolia.
