Абстракт

Introduction: Erdenet copper mining was engaged 6000 employees. Erdenet copper mining divides its responsibilities between metal extraction, open cast mining areas, auto-transportation and large-scale repairation work. The overall aim of the study was to conduct an occupational exposure assessment for the miners employed by the Erdenet mining company and to examine the distribution of occupational diseases among the mine employees.

Materials and Methods: This project analyzed data from a retrospective study conducted by the National Center for Working Condition and Occupational Diseases that described the prevalence and incidence of occupational diseases in Mongolia between the years of 1978-2008 at the Erdenet copper mining.

Results: The mean of occupational disease case by ILO/WHO classification of occupational cases and sex of subjects were statistically significant (F=9.0, p<0.001). Prevalence per 1000 miners was 4.6 occupational disease cases in the averaged 24 years. Range of the incidence was 42-105 occupational cases in 1980-2008.The mean of the total dust concentration of all workplaces was higher than Mongolian occupational exposure limits (2mg/m3) by 2-3 times. In total, 92,2% of the sampled dust was between 0,4 – 1µm in size. The mean concentration of tolulene was higher than Mongolian occupational exposure limits by 17,5 mg/m3, benzene by 3 times in the reparation sector and 1,8 times higher in the auto-transportation sector.

Conclusions: This study hopes to bring attention to the employees of the open cast mining sector who have been severely affected by very high levels of respirable dusts, and to the foundry workers who have been affected by high levels of occupational noise and vibration.
