Background: Increasing resistance to the action of stress factors is an actual
problem of modern medical science. Development of new herbal adaptogenic
preparations and its introduction into clinical practice can be the chance for
solution of this problem. In this study we aimed to assess actoprotective activity of
adaptogenic preparations of natural origin. Apilac is a product of beekeeping and
prepared from royal jelly bees. Polyphytoton and Adapton-6 are the multicomponent
herbal adaptogenic remedies in the form of the alcohol tincture consists of 17
species herbal plants and the dry extracts of 6 species plants.
Objectives: The aim of our study is to compare actoprotective effect of
adaptogenic preparations apilac, Polyphytoton and Adapton-6 with other
hepatoprotective drug Allohol and herbal adaptogen Eleutherococcus.
Methods: Actoprotective activity was studied in Wistar line rats of both
sexes weighing 180-200 g. The animals of experimental group were injected
intraperitoneally by solution of lyophilized apilac (400 mg/kg), Poliphytoton (3.0
ml/kg), Adapton-6 (100 mg/kg), infusion of Eleutherococcus (5 ml/kg), and
Allohol (80 mg/kg). After 10 days were determined the general physical endurance
and power of physical endurance, then the animals were decapitated under light
ether anesthesia and determined: in homogenates of skeletal muscles – ATP
content and the content of glycogen in the liver. Also was evaluated the intensity
of free radical oxidation by measuring the level of malondialdehyde (MDA) in
serum and catalase activity in blood serum of rats.
Results: The studies found that these preparations had a stimulating effect and
significantly increased the physical endurance in laboratory rats. On the background
of intense exercise had noticed a significant decrease in the concentration of ATP
in skeletal muscle, as well as observed depletion of carbohydrate reserves, as
evidenced by the decrease in the concentration of liver glycogen. The carbohydrate
and energy metabolism are accelerated during preventive treatment with apilac,
Poliphytoton and Adapton-6. At the maximal level of physical exercises we get
the high level of MDA and decrease of catalase activity in serum of rats. This
datas demonstrated the induction of lipid peroxidation and reduction activity of
endogenous antioxidant activity system. The findings of this experiment reveal the
growth of macroergical products in skeletal muscles.
Conclusion: All experimental preparations in varying degrees, increased
efficiency in experimental animals, and hepatoprotective preparations in this sense
are not inferior adaptogens. According to the investigation results, hepatoprotective
preparations activated the physical efficiency of laboratory animals and improved
the oxidation reduction processes.
