Абстракт
Background: This study was an attempt to assess the effect of C. Scolymus aqueous
extract on some biochemical values such as lipid profiles in alloxan-induced diabetic rabbits.
Leaves of Cynara scolymus were picked, in September 2012, from in Tsenkhermandal
sum, Hentii aimag, Mongolia. We studied the aqueous extract and polyphenolic compounds
from Cynara scolymus leaves.
Methods: The research was conducted at the Innovation center of “New medicine”
Institute and in biochemical Laboratory of Khuljborjigon Clinic. Pellet medicinal form C.
Scolymus cultivated in Mongolia was given to experimental animals at the dose of 200 mg/
kg. Total number of used rabbits was 30. Male Shinshila rabbits, weighting 1.5–2.7 kg, were
rendered diabetic with an injection of 100 mg/kg alloxan monohydrate into a marginal ear
vein.
Results: It is shown that mean total activity of total cholesterol was 4.64±0.40 mmol/l
of that in the Artichoke treatment group. By the day 14, this value had decreased by
4.16±0.36 mmol/l and Alloxan-induced diabetic rabbits treat with aqueous extract showed
10.34% decline in the activity of total cholesterol level on 1 and 14 day, respectively. The
differences between the control group and hyperglycemic groups were statistically highly
significant (p<0.004).
Artichoke caused a steady decrease in the serum triglyceride from 2.70±0.14 mmol/l
(day 3) to 2.52±0.15 (day 14) amounting to 6.6% difference. The differences between
the control group and hyperglycemic groups were statistically highly significant (p<0.05).
They can also improve the condition of diabetes as indicated with parameters such as serum
low density lipoprotein and high density lipoprotein. Mean total activity of low density
lipoprotein was 2.803±0.602 mmol/l in the Artichoke group. At day 14, this value decreased
by 2.52±0.51 mmol/l and alloxan-induced diabetic rabbits treated with aqueous extract
showed 10% decrease of low density lipoprotein level. The control and hyperglycaemic
groups had highly significant (p<0.05) difference.
Conclusion: In conclusion, Cynara scolymus pellet has exhibited significant hypoglycemic
and hypolipidemic effects in alloxan-induced diabetic rabbits.
