Objective: To introduce perinatal ultrasound diagnostic method of most common congenital malformations in Mongolia.
Material and Methods: One hundred and three cases of congenital malformation were diagnosed among 35102 pregnant women in The Antenatal Diagnostic Department of OBGYN clinic of MCHRC.
Results: There were diagnosed congenital malformations by ultrasound 39 (38%) cases at 33-39 week of gestation, 28 (27%) cases at 29-32 weeks of gestation, 21(20%) cases at 22-28 weeks of gestation, 12(15%) cases at 13-21 weeks of gestation. Congenital malformations were those affecting the central nervous system (31.1%), umbilical artery (23.3%), bone-muscle system (10.7%) and facial anomaly (11.6%). Overall, the commonest anomalies were single umbilical artery (23.3%), hydrocephaly (20.4%), lip and palate cleft (11.6%) and gastroshisis (8.7%). All above mentioned malformations were diagnosed by ultrasound at 13-39 week of gestation. Early ultrasound diagnosis was most reliable in the detection of hydro edema, gastroshisis, fetus kidney cysts, hydronephroses and brain anomaly. The outcome of pregnancy showed 42.7% of women were delivered and 27.2% of women were done preterm delivery and 30.1% of women were aborted.
Conclusion: Congenital malformations were diagnosed in 2.45% women of 14181 pregnant women at first visit to doctors of Antenatal Diagnostic Department of OBGYN clinic. Fetus ultrasound is able to diagnose congenital malformations at 13 week of gestation (Ultrasound diagnosis was confirmed in 83.5%). The most reliable malformations in the detection by ultrasound are hydrocephaly, single umbilical artery, lip and palate cleft and gastroshisis.
