Objective: To study histological changes of placenta and their relationship with extragynecological pathology and with pregnancy and delivery disorders in premature labor.

Methods and Materials: This retrospective study was done by using 100 medical histories of mothers, who were delivered in the department of premature delivery of OBGYN clinics. We also reviewed pathological records of 50 full term neonates and of 50 premature neonates, who were born in this center. The statistical analysis was done by using Excel 2004, Microsoft word, SPSS 10.0.

Results:  The result of the placental pathology of preterm labor shows dysfunction of blood circulation (44%), chronic failure (35%), growth inhibition (21%), and inflammation (43%). The analysis of placenta of died newborn shows dysfunction of blood circulation (30%), chronic failure (38%) and growth inhibition (32%). Early leaking amniotic fluid (26%) and pregnancy disorder (28%) were identified in women, whose placental analysis showed placental inhibition, chronic failure and dysfunction of blood circulation. Women, who had placental inhibition (45.5%) and dysfunction of blood circulation (30.5%) tended to premature. Women (47%) with urinary tract infection had chronic placental failure.

Conclusion: The result of the placental pathology of preterm labor shows dysfunction of blood circulation (44%), chronic failure (35%), growth inhibition (21%), and inflammation (43%). Placental inhibition, chronic failure and dysfunction of blood circulation were influenced on pregnancy disorder (22%), tending to premature (51%) and urinary tract infection (48%).
